Suited for Success is over the moon to be a West Midlands Combined Authority Jobs and Skills Academy delivery partner and a United by Birmingham 2022 Community Programme Partner for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The Games are set to put the West Midlands on the world stage and will create thousands of volunteering and job opportunities across the region.

Jobs and volunteering opportunities for young people

The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games will provide a unique festival of top-class sport, inspirational culture and innovative business, making a world of difference for everyone in Birmingham, across the West Midlands.

Working with the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (OC), the West Midlands Combined Authority have established a Jobs and Skills Academy (JSA) intended to support 1000 unemployed young people to access the volunteering opportunities created by the games with a further 6000 individuals supported into training and employment.

Without focused intervention, there is a risk that young people (particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds) living local to venues being used by the Games will miss out on the exciting volunteering and employment opportunities available.

Linking young people to the Games

Funded by The National Lottery Community Fund, Suited for Success is one of 20 community-based organisations working close to Games venues in Birmingham, Coventry, Sandwell and Wolverhampton who will be working with WMCA to support local young people aged 18 to 30 who are unemployed or at risk of unemployment, with a particular target focus on those who live in priority wards.

The programme has been developed as part of the Commonwealth Jobs and Skills Academy, which is driving skills and employment opportunities for local people, through the Games.
