Client Stories

Many clients referred to us may have experienced long-term unemployment, have a history of ex-offending, drug abuse, homelessness, poverty and many other life challenges. This results in low self-esteem and confidence that becomes a barrier to finding employment. Looking and feeling the part for an interview is a step towards succeeding in finding that crucial job and getting their life back on track...
"I want to be someone my kids and grandkids can be proud of ..."

Meet Junior

Junior has been unemployed for over 35 years. After a life of crime and several stints in prison totaling 32 years, Junior’s now decided enough is enough and at the age of 57 wants to now turn his life around. Junior shares his story:

“A life of crime was easy for me, I had no interest in getting a job. But I’m a grandad and father of 10 children, I want the satisfaction of working and be someone my kids and grandkids can be proud of now.

"I used to think I was an island and I didn’t need help from anyone, but that hasn’t helped me, now I want the help. It’s taken me this long to realise there is more to life, but it’s not too late. Two months ago, I just woke up one morning and thought enough is enough. I cut off my dreadlocks and started looking for work.”

“I feel positive for the first time in my life”

With a background in catering and construction work Junior is really looking forward to coming off unemployment benefits and getting a job.

“I feel really positive for the first time in my life. This is the start of something good. If someone gave me a chance and a job, they would have a good soldier, I’m a hard worker. I WILL get a job.“

Junior was referred through the Business in the Community (BITC) Ready for Work programme who supports some of society's most disadvantaged people to enter employment through training and work placements. He has a work placement interview with Carillion.

Wow, Wow, Wow

Looking in the mirror after been dressed by one of the Suited for Success volunteers, Junior was blown away with his appearance. He said: “Wow, wow, wow, I’ve worn suits before but never looked like this. I’m definitely ready to get that job now!”

Junior was so delighted with his new look he wore his suit home. “Wow I look like somebody now, thank you so much, I can’t thank you enough its's 100%.”
