Suited for Success out in the local community
Suited for Success is partnering with other local charities, community projects, local churches and organisations in the Ladywood area to help set-up and run a mid-week job club to support local people right on our doorstep into employment.
Ladywood has been crowned the unemployment capital of the UK, with over 5,800 people ( 6.1 per cent of the population) aged 16 to 64 claiming unemployment benefits. The area has a myriad of complex issues and suffers some of the worst poverty and deprivation in the UK (reference English indices of deprivation). People in the area experience entrenched poverty caused by long-term worklessness, low skills, low pay and inadequate benefits.
Official figures by the Office for National Statistics also shows Birmingham as having the highest unemployment rate at 6.2% than any other part of the UK (national average 2.4%) .
Helping local people into employment.
Launching in October 2017, Suited for Success will be partnering with local organisations including Karis Neighbourscheme, the Ladywood family Project, Jericho Foundation and NHS Learning Works to launch a local Job Club.
The community Job Club will be based at the Ladywood Community Centre and will run on a Wednesday morning between 10am - 12.30pm alongside a money advice service and a Real Junk Food Cafe.
Impacting unemployment in Ladywood
Exciting major regeneration is happening in and around the area including the new Metropolitan hospital, Icknield port loop and HS2 Curzon street station. Unemployed people across Ladywood are missing out on the available opportunities because of barriers to employment.
Suited for Success will be onsite in the Digital Den at the Ladywood Community Centre every Wednesday morning helping people with CVs, application forms, job search and interview preparation skills. Our aspiration is to work together with others and help make a difference to unemployment right on our doorstep and in the heart of our city.
