Suited for Success receives The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service
On 2nd June Suited for Success was honoured with The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the highest award a voluntary group can receive in the UK. Suited for Success is one of 281 charities, social enterprises and voluntary groups across the UK to receive the prestigious award this year.
The number of nominations and awards has increased year on year since the awards were introduced in 2002, showing that the voluntary sector is thriving and full of innovative ideas to make life better for those around them.
The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service aims to recognise outstanding work by volunteer groups to benefit their local communities. It was created in 2002 to celebrate the Queen’s Golden Jubilee.
Winners are announced each year on 2 June – the anniversary of the Queen’s Coronation. Award winners this year are wonderfully diverse. They include volunteers helping people overcome mental health problems through sport, volunteers using caravans as mobile cafe/information centres in geographically remote locations and another group mentoring children who have a parent in prison.
A royal occasion
Our CEO Patricia White attended a garden party at Buckingham Palace in May, along with other recipients of this year’s Award.
Patricia says: "We are absolutely thrilled that our work has been recognised, it pays tribute to the hard work and commitment of our amazing volunteers, from our core dedicated volunteer team to the fantastic teams of corporate volunteer staff teams from businesses across Birmingham and the West Midlands.
"We a looking forward to continuing and developing our work to support unemployed men and women into employment."
Awards ceremony
The Suited for Success team will receive the award alongside other Birmingham and West Midlands Queen's Award winners at an awards ceremony taking place in October hosted by the West Midlands Lieutenancy.
Suited for Success also received a congratulating letter from the West Midlands Lieutenancy. Lord-Lieutenant Mr John Crabtree OBE writes: "As Her Majesty's The Queen's Lord-Lieutenant of the West Midlands, I congratulate Suited for Success most warmly on being awarded The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service this year.
"I know that achieving this prestigious award is no mean feat. I am quite sure that everyone in your organisation will be immensely proud that all your hard work and dedication has been recognised in this way."
