Ready for work on civvy street

Another great Ex-Forces day at Suited for Success on 20th September supporting a group of unemployed male and female veterans who came from a variety of military backgrounds with several injured during service.

The clients were referred through The Poppy Factory who provide bespoke opportunities and ongoing employment support for hundreds of wounded, injured and sick veterans of all ages and from all services, helping to restore their financial independence through sustainable and rewarding employment.

On the day we were also joined by a great team of seven National Grid Managers who volunteered their time for the day doing one-to-one interview coaching sessions with the veterans exploring their employment aspirations and giving valuable advice on transferable skills and how to interview for the job that they want.

The Pertemps HM Forces Liaison Team were also on hand to talk to the veterans about employment opportunities and available jobs in the field they would like to find employment.

The group were also dressed and styled by the Suited for Success team and some of the National Grid managers and provided with free smart interview outfits ready for their up and coming job interviews. Each client expressed their gratitude for the help and support they received on the day.

Eternally grateful

Clive became very emotional while expressing his gratitude for the opportunity to attend the day:

"I have come from being a high ranking officer in the military and a high powered job when I left. However due to circumstances I lost my job, became homeless living on the streets and depressed, the last few years have been really changing for me. But coming here today speaking to the National Grid managers and the support everyone has given me, even the suit you gave me which I wasn't expecting, has been fantastic and really boosted my confidence, I cannot thank you enough. "

Frank commented: "I cannot put into words how much today has helped me to now have the tools for possible employment. I will be eternally grateful. I vowed to serve my country and didn't expect anything in return, but after military service it's great to have the assistance when things fail"

Making a difference

The group of National Grid managers also expressed how much they enjoyed the day and having the opportunity to give up some time from their busy jobs to support the veterans.

Business manager Shaq commented: "It's amazing how me giving up just a few hours of my time and my experience can make such big difference to others. It's been a real eye opener for me to see what I take for granted is a barrier for others."

Suited for Success is looking forward to developing our programme strand to support veterans into employment partnering with the National Grid and veteran charities and organisations in the Midlands also upholding our Armed Forces Covenant committment.
