Return to Work Mums day with Gleesons
We had such an 'AMAZING' day with a staff volunteer team from Gleeson Recruitment on Wednesday 26th April who joined Suited for Success for a pop-up employment day in a Birmingham inner city housing estate supporting unemployed women aspiring to return to work after having children.
Out in the community
Hosted at and supported by Gas Street St Luke's Church in Attwood Green, the Gleeson recruitment team supported the ladies with 1-2-1 coaching, reviewing and updating CVs, job search, applying for jobs, interview preparation, confidence building and much more…enabling the mums to be open and honest about their anxieties and challenges they are facing returning to employment.
Gleeson Divisional Manger, Jane Spearman said: “It was such a moving day listening to the women’s stories and their challenges to regain employment. I really hope our team have been able to make a difference in some way. A truly humbling experience”.
The day also included a clothing sale of lovely brand new (with tags) casual summer clothing (donated unsold stock received from retailers). We advertised the clothing sale as affordable prices and surprised the ladies on the day by selling everything for just ‘£1’.
Most ladies who attended lived in local surrounding communities including Ladywood, Edgbaston and Attwood Green that have big pockets of high unemployed and deprivation. They heard about the day through our work with local schools, children centres, family support charities, grassroot community projects, jobs clubs and foodbanks in the area.
"Thank you for helping us"
One lady commented: “My friend text me on the morning saying did I want to come with her, but I wasn’t expecting this. I’m so grateful for the help I received. Also being able to buy some lovely brand new clothing for just £1 has been such a treat for us too. Thank you so much for helping us.”
All the women who attended will also receive follow-up support from the Suited for Success team.
