Working together for employment in Ladywood

Suited for Success and our Ladywood Job Club team had a great collaboration day on Wednesday 29th May working in partnership with the Birmingham City Council WOW employment team to host a recruitment day for unemployed men and women in Ladywood to hear more about the employment opportunities at the newly built multi-million pound Leisure Centre in the heart of Ladywood.

Birmingham City Council and Sport England are investing £8.5 million into the development of the new state of the art leisure facility in Ladywood due to open in the summer.

Unemployment capital

Recent research and media reports have highlighted Ladywood as the unemployment capital of the UK. The new centre on the doorstep of Suited for Success has created a buzz in the area with the anticipation of exciting employment opportunities for local unemployed people.

Suited for Success created the opportunity to work with the Birmingham City Council WOW employment team and the Ladywood Leisure to host a recruitment day. To attend the day people were asked to submit their CVs to ensure they had the relevant skills and experience for the variety of job roles on offer including receptionists, catering staff and cleaners to lifeguards, fitness instructors and swimming teachers.

Army of volunteers

After a great information session from Ladywood Leisure Centre Manager Dawn Page and her recruitment team about the exciting new centre and jobs available, people were supported to apply for the number of vacancies online by a team of volunteers from KPMG Birmingham, Trident Reach, the National Trust and Ladywood Job Club using laptops recently donated by the National Grid. The leisure centre team also reviewed CVs and spoke one-to-one with people giving tips and advice to apply for the jobs.

Guaranteed job interviews

There was also a golden buzzer moment when the leisure centre manager surprised the packed room with an announcement that she would offer everyone who attended the day a GUARANTEED job interviewed!!! Suited for Success will also be offering interview coaching appointments and free interview outfits to everyone whi attend to prepare them to attend the interviews.

Leisure centre manager Dawn Page commented on how productive the day was: "We've met some great people in the local community today with alot of skills and experience. I want the Ladywood Leisure Centre to have a real community feeling and ensure local people get jobs."
